Circumcision

Samaritans circumcise their young at the age of eight days, according to the biblical text. Unlike Jews, Samaritans would not postpone circumcision under any condition unless the infant's physical condition does not allow such an operation. In case of a mild jaundice, Samaritans prefer to proceed with the operation, as they believe that it is not the jaundice which is rejecting the circumcision, but instead, it is the circumcision which is rejecting the jaundice. Out of their experience, they believe that in fact the circumcision assists infants in overcoming jaundice.

The circumcision is conducted by a Jewish religious circumciser since currently no Samaritans are authorized to conduct this procedure in terms of medial practice.

Circumcision is usually conducted at the congregation's community center, both in Hulon and on Mt. Grizim. The participants gather at the center and commence with the prayer while being directed by the priests. At the same time, the circumciser performs his act with the assistance of the child's mother and her companions.
